Intro to Broom Making: Cobweb Broom

Make a cobweb broom in the traditional style, this lightweight broom is great for reaching cobwebs. These brooms are functional but make great decorative items, and great gifts! Learn the basic weaving techniques used to make a broom, with natural broomcorn (sorghum) and organic handles. Leave with a completed project, maybe two. No experience is required for this project.

Study primary art principles, theories, and art history in this hands-on fundamentals class. This class is geared towards 7th-12th grade students and meets homeschooling requirements for junior high and high school art education.

Meet other homeschoolers beginning or advancing their exposure to art. Practice drawing and gain composition skills, then paint. Explore the fundamentals of each medium and build a groundwork for further understanding and study.

Pastels

Explore color through pastels at a beginner and intermediate level. Use traditional pastels as you learn how to mix colors and layering processes. Create still lifes and landscapes using a photo reference. Expand your skills through demonstrations and personal instruction.

Required:

  • Pastel-toned paper with colors (pad or individual sheets)
  • Pastel boards or sanded pastel paper (your choice of drawing surface)
  • Pastels: Sennelier, Nu Pastels, Rembrandt or Great American
  • For paper sheets you will need masking tape or bull clamps, and a drawing board that is larger than your paper. 
  • Kneaded eraser
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Soft vine charcoal

Optional:

  • Pastel pencils
  • Cookie tray
  • Dish towel or rags
  • Wet wipes
