Mindful Art 2

Work in various art mediums while learning how to practice mindfulness.  Begin class with a guided meditation, followed by an art project using a different medium each week, including small projects with basket weaving, Japanese rock wrapping, and creative drawing. Learn how to practice mindfulness not only in your artmaking, but in your everyday lives. Students are encouraged to complete Mindful Art 1 prior to this class.

Beginner Acrylics

Discover the basics of acrylic painting including how to get started, use of materials, color theory, and rendering. Throughout the course, you will be working on painting a still life, a landscape, and an animal. You will build confidence in your painting skills, have fun expressing yourself with acrylics, and gain inspiration to continue using the medium in your life.

Beginner Drawing

Develop basic drawing skills in a simple and disciplined manner. Learn perspective, composition, foreshortening, anatomy, line quality and shading through the use of still lifes, masters, and figure studies.

Watercolor of the Wild

Learn how to paint the people, landscapes, animals, or flowers you love. Receive personal one-on-one attention, as well as daily demonstrations to help you grow in experience as a watercolor artist. All skill levels are welcome.

  • 4 H pencil and kneaded eraser

  • A flat watercolor palette with multiple wells
  • Flat watercolor brushes, mop brush, and a script brush or liner

Intermediate Oil Painting

Develop and hone your oil painting skills.  Using a subject of your choice, you will work on color choice, brush strokes, and will receive individualized attention.  Some drawing and painting experience is necessary.  Please bring reference photos.

Beginner Watercolor

Prepare to become a successful watercolor painter. There is a strong emphasis on drawing and painting subjects such as landscapes, architecture, and water scenes. No experience in watercolor painting is required.

Intermediate Handbuilding

Develop more advanced handbuilding techniques from previous handbuilding classes, to create both functional and sculptural work. Explore advanced pinching, coiling, slab making, and surface alteration to help create beautifully glazed and fired ceramic ware.

Beginner Handbuilding courses are preferred before registering for this class.

Beginner Oil Painting

Be introduced to the wonderful world of oil painting! We will discuss the value of underpainting, and the difference that a color vs a monochrome underpainting can make. We will look at how to choose reference photos and use them as a tool to achieve your desired look, as well as discuss seeing and painting light and shadow.
